Mt. Inglismaldie is one of those mountains that if it was closer to the road, I'd do it again, but the fact of the matter is, the approach trail for this mountain sucks. In fact, I will place it down with Mt. Fable as being my least favourite mountain so far. To climb this mountain, exit the TransCanada Highway at the Lake Minnewanka turn-off in Banff. Follow the signs to Johnson Lake. About half a mile before Johnson Lake, you will see a small (5-6 car) parking lot. From that parking lot, you will see a trail heading northeast, then it quickly heads east. After about 15 minutes or so, you will come into an open meadow area. Go to the back side of that meadow (keeping your same direction), and you will see a small creek bed. This is where the drudgery begins.

07 Aug 99 - Here we see Mt. Inglismaldie from the top of Sulphur Mtn. If gives you a better perspective on the long approach up that damn creek.

27 Sep 98 - Over half of your day will be spent in this creek bed. You'll be ducking under fallen trees (snagging your backpack), and you'll get plenty of opportunities to do some bushwachking. From the summit, you can look back and see the entire creek bed. Facing this way from the summit, you will see Mt. Rundle, Tunnel Mountain, Sulphur Mountain, Cascade Mountain, and the Banff Springs Golf Course.

27 Sep 98 - Here we see typical terrain for the creek bed. Here, you duck under the log, and up the rock, then into some bushwacking.

27 Sep 98 - When you finally come out of the creek bed, you will come to this openning. Inglismaldie will be on your left, and Mt. Girouard will be in front of you. Walk toward Mt. Girouard then walk up the ridge toward Inglismaldie.

27 Sep 98 - Also, when you get out of the creek bed, facing Mt. Inglismaldie, you will see this image. This is the descent route. You can go up this way, but you'll encounter lots of loose scree (which mother nature designed for going down, not up). The ascent route (as shown above) goes around the bump on the right of this picture.

27 Sep 98 - Here is the descent route, as seen from the summit. This route will take you over lots of loose scree, so be sure to put your gaitors on.

27 Sep 98 - From the summit, you can enjoy views of Lake Minnewanka.
